Pictures of our farm....

I have been asked several times recently to post some pictures of the farm. I think I have figured it out so I am giving it a try.

This is a picture from this fall - it was an overcast day but I managed to get a picture while the sun was peeking out. You can see some of our goats and their guardian dogs.

Here is a picture in the opposite direction. The ridge gives us a beautiful display of color during the fall.

This is a picture looking toward the back of our property in the spring. The ridge runs at the back and there is a year round creek at the bottom of the ridge.

I need to take some pictures in the other directions...when I have the opportunity, I will post them.

Get your plant i.d. books ready again...tomorrow I want to tell you all about Red Clover - one of my favorite wild herbs!

  1. Very beautiful! Y'all are lucky to be around all those hills.

    The fall color there is awesome. Over here most native tree leaves just turn a sickly brown and die :P

    So nice!

    I'm wondering what happened with the next door property that was going up for sale?

  3. Oh, how beautiful! What kind of tress are on the ridge? Do you ever have the time to hike up there? How peaceful it all looks, I can see why you love it so much!

  4. James,
    We do love these hills - hope you saw my question about blueberries on your site :)

    Herrick,
    I am trying to find that out. The auction was supposed to be last Saturday...a few days before Sat., the auction signs and all the stakes disappeared...no auction! They began discing and planting in the lower fields along the creek bottom - we have no idea what is going on. The people planting were not anyone we recognized...we are SO thankful the auction didn't take place and we are looking for answers...I"ll post when I get it figured out

    Faith,
    We have all kinds of trees, paw paw, tulip poplar, hickory, black walnut, maple, oak and many others - I need a good class on tree identification! We have about 8 acres of timber on our portion of the ridge.We have hiked it but it is VERY steep - a hard climb. It is very peaceful here - we are way back from the road and our house sits almost in the middle of our land, excluding the ridge. I am very thankful that God wooed us to this land. The verse he gave us about our farm was :

    Deut.7 "For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills;
    8* "a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey;
    9* "a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
    10 ¶ "When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.

    My 7 year old still wants to go and dig for the copper :)

  8. I would like to come out soon. Maybe we can this weekend, during the holiday. I want to look at your raised beds, we are about to construct our first few this fall and I'd like to get some pointers from you guys.
