Authentic Agriculture Makes Its Debut!

Good Farmer John has written a wonderful post over on Northern Farmer's blog.  I encourage all of you to take the time to pop over and read this post. This is one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time.  It always irritated me that the government stole the organic label from us and then began to require us to pay to use it...along with requiring  yards of paperwork.  Whenever the governement gets involved you can be sure of several things...it WILL cost you money and it will become a nightmare of red tape.  And in the case of words...like the term organic...it will become watered down or have so many loop holes for the BIG guy that it doesn't mean anything anymore.

Good Farmer John has decided to take action....to "take back the land that the enemy has stolen"!  All I want to know is where do I sign up?!

  1. Wow, that was some tough stuff to read but good. You have really been challenging me as of late. I watched the Future of Food and all I can say is yuck.I am apalled on so many different levels. I have a whole slew of questions now about how do I know if the seeds I am buying have been meddled with? Where do I get pure seed? And I guess I am realizing my goal for this year is to be able to enjoy our garden after the summer is over ie canning, freezing, etc. We don't even live on a farm so being self sustaining is a pipe dream at best for me now. But I want to make the most of what I do have so if you have any answers, tips, thoughts, or suggestions I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

  2. Hi Mary Ellen!
Boy do we miss you - Elijah is especially missing Judah! I can suggest several places to buy seeds - Fedco, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Seeds of Change and Seed Saver's Exchange to name a few. Then begin to save your own seed.
I don't save all of my own seed but I do save a little more each year. You can call me if you need numbers ....we still need to spend a day together and while the little ones play we can pick each other's brains :)

  4. Barry,
We, as a people, also need to start telling Uncle Sam to stop regulating what we can eat/drink. If I, as a grown adult, want to purchase raw milk to consume, then the government should have no say so. I have been to dozens of government inspected dairy farms that are supplying the nations milk - disgusting is way to mild a term for what I saw....I would NEVER drink milk from a store again!
Glad to see you join the blogging world!
