So....what is this?

I need help!  I found this object when cleaning out an old bureau.  In fact, I found two of them.  It is about 7 inches long, it has 8 sides.  The ends have small holes drilled in them and the wood itself is covered with small holes.  I don't have a clue...I don't remember ever seeing them before.

Ideas anyone?

  2. I'm assuming you already asked the boys, right?

If it were at my house, my first guess would be something the boys started creating.

    But what?

  3. Hi Lady!
I asked the boys....not a clue. I am trying to imagine...some highly treasured cross stitch tool? (I haven't stitched in the last couple of years but have been bringing it out of storgage to start again). Some piece of equipment we need? It appears to be professionally made, machine made....as soon as I throw it away we will discover its use and lament its passing...I just KNOW it!

  4. I think it is a whatchamacallit.

Perhaps you could put tinker toys in it and use it as a drying rack for baggies that you wash out.

That is if you are a tightwad like me. :)

  6. A drying rack for baggies! Too funny! I could use one of those too, actually... It does look like a tinker toy, though.

  7. Whoa! I know EXACTLY what that is! It's a seven inch long, octogon shaped, wooden object with holes in it! :o)

Might it be a hummingbird house?

We love your blog and your salves.

  8. I have a friend whose father used to sell homemade suckers. He used to display them in an upright wooden pole with holes in it. Could it be?

  9. Hi Cheri,
That is exactly what I call it ....a watchamacallit.

    Patti and Jana,
Does look like one but not a tinker toy.

    Matt,
So glad you like the salves and the blog:) Hummingbird house? Only if they were VERY little :)

Tammara - I don't think so...the holes go all the way around this....

  11. Cheri,

I realize this is a very late suggestion, but a friend described Christmas gifts her family made for extended family members this year: take a log or the like, drill some holes in it (not through it), and fill the holes with suet--homemade or purchesed. Fix a way to hang it, and there you have a birdfeeder. I didn't see the finished product, but your whatchamacallit brought it to mind.
