Tongue in Cheek

Before I continue my story....just a thought on the whole bail out fiasco going on.  I have this to say...worked there, know them, don't trust them...at least don't trust 95% of them.  Did you know they have hidden a little provision in the bill that will kick back 20% of this money to ACORN.  Personally, I wouldn't give them one thin dime.

So...I got this in email and thought it a hilarious solution...tongue in cheek of course!
Now, here is an interesting option for our economic crisis.  This combined with a restructuring of how large corporations and banks are structured, invested and made accountable – including downsizing the megalomaniac salaries of their ceo’s – might actually make a difference!

I'm against the $85,000,000, 000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000, 000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000, 000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college - it'll be there

Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car - create jobs

Invest in the market - capital drives growth

Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( 'vote buy' ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it..

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can 'never work.'

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

Birk

  1. Hey, that sounds like a great idea! I'd send it to your local congressmen quick like!

  2. Isn't 85 billion divided by 200 million only $425?

  3. OK, I know this was tongue in cheek, but you know, it does remind me of a real life situation that worked amazingly well.

There was a church here in town (unfortunately we didn't go there) that wanted to start saving to buy a new building, and were committed to doing it debt-free. As the leadership prayed about it, they were convicted about their own families' debt and that of the other church members. The leadership decided to take the church's funds on hand at the moment and pay off all the debt of all the church members.

With every church member debt-free, it was *amazing* how fast they all were able to contribute to building the church... and of course, it, too was debt free.

The folks we knew that went there had tons of testimonies of how all of their lives were changed. Cool, huh?

  4. Camille,
    Too funny!

    Rob,
    You caught it!

    Julie,
That is very cool - what an awesome testimony not only to the members but to the town!

  5. I received this too. Must be floating around TN. Sadly, we cannot afford to do this. We couldn't even afford the "stimulus package" we got earlier this year....it was all borrowed money. We all (every man, woman and child) actually owe more than $32,000 each to pay off the national debt. Of course, this doesn't count all the personal debt out there.

Take a look at how much has been borrowed. Here's the Treasury Dept. website:

    http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np

The fiscal year ends for the government today (9/30/08). Set up the query at the above site for the last year to see how much was borrowed. It is nearly a trillion dollars in ONE YEAR.

  6. I was wondering the same thing Rob. Then I figured out this is Washington Math. It has nothing to do with reality or accountability, and expands without limits as more gets added to the tab for special interest projects.
