Join me on August the 8th!

On August 8th, I will be teaching my course on Herbal Medicine here on my farm.  We will learn about 10 common herbs and make every form of herbal medicine! If you are local...and even if you aren't!.....I'd love to have you join me.  I've had students travel from Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida to take this class.

We will work hard, learn a lot and have a lot of fun.  It is an intensive class because we are covering lots of material and you are doing all of the work.  My goal is that by the time you leave you have the knowledge and confidence to go home and do this for yourself and your family.  The cost for this class is $40.  It runs from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  If you want to bring a spouse or teenager with you, and you are willing to share the book and products you make, then your family member may attend for $20.  My students consistently tell me that I should be charging more but I think the price is fair.

We will make an herbal tea and enjoy it in class.  We will make another and turn it into a refreshing summertime drink....Lavender Lemonade!  We will learn to make a decoction and then turn that into a cough syrup which you will take home.

We will make a compress and poultice.  You will learn the difference between the two and how to make them properly, how to know which one to use and why to use them.

We will make an herbal  hot oil infusion and learn lots of uses for herbal oils.  We will then take that oil and turn it into a healing salve which you will take home!  We will talk about how to turn that oil into a lip balm....so much fun!

And finally, you will learn how to make a tincture...the strongest form of herbal medicine.  You will choose the right herb or herbs for your family and make a tincture in class that you can take home to add to your herbal medicine chest!

And lastly, I will teach you how to make Colloidal Silver safely, easily and oh, so inexpensively at home!  You will also take home a printout of my electronic book "Basic Medicinal Herbs, How to Grow and Use Herbs for Medicine".  This book has step-by-step instructions on every form of medicine along with an in-depth section on 10 common herbs!  I teach you how to grow them, how to harvest them, what parts to use and how to use them.  You will also go home with a special email address so that when questions come up about herbs, making the medicine or anything else pertaining to class I can walk you through the problem - I'll be your ongoing mentor!

If you'd like to register then email me at "shfarm at comcast dot net" to reserve your place. If you've taken my class in the past and would like to leave a comment, I'd love to hear what you think!

Blessings,

We have to stand up today against this bill!  Hitler should have been so lucky to have so much control.   Print this out...forward this list...send it to your newspapers...and take it to your representatives and senators.  They might not have the time to read the whole bill but this list should be enough for ANYONE who cares about this country, our Constitution and our freedoms to VOTE NO!  We have the greatest medical care in the world.  People come here from all over the world because it is the best.  Let's keep it that way!

He's better!

Thanks so much to all of you who have been praying for Elijah!  His fever began to dissipate and finally disappeared on Tuesday.  He still spent all day in bed yesterday (Wed.) - totally wiped.

He is sleeping through the night now (and still part of the day!).  His cheeks aren't their normal, healthy pink but he definitely looks better.

He ate his first meal on Tuesday....before that it was fruit, juice or fruit Popsicles only....I haven't cooked a lot until the last two days - no one felt like eating but I think I better get back in the kitchen tomorrow....appetites are picking up!

His coughing is almost gone....I think I only heard 5 or 6 coughing fits today....and they didn't involve vomiting!

His ears are better....still hears a "gurgling" sound occasionally and still isn't hearing quite normally but....no pain!

We missed home group again last night - haven't been to church in weeks because of this illness.  Our pastor/elder and his family came out on Sunday for a short visit and to pray for Elijah - it was so good to see them!  I am hungry for my church family!  They thought Elijah had lost weight - I think so too.

Elijah was distraught that he was going to miss our big Farmer's Market Jamboree last Sat. (he actually asked if he could get up at 4:00 am and go with Josiah and I to the market....yeah....riighhhhttt!).  However, we found out that it had been postponed until fall.  Elijah stayed home with Jeremy (and slept most of the day!) and Josiah and I went to market.  It was COLD that morning....very cold....shivering-because-I didn't-bring-a-coat cold....a coat....in the middle of JULY people! No wonder my tomatoes won't turn red!!!  I finally wrapped myself in an extra tablecloth that was in the car. I might have looked silly, however, I not only matched our display tables but my teeth quit chattering.  Seriously.

Although I had different plans for this last week - I have enjoyed spending a lot of time with Elijah.  We have cuddled and watched a lot of old movies...remember Herbie the Love Bug?  We've had a marathon of Herbie movies.

My oldest son also loaned us the Planet Earth series.  Awesome!  What an amazingly creative God we serve!  We have marveled at His handiwork and praised Him with complete awe.....how can people watch this and not see the hand of Yahweh?!  We don't often watch a lot of movies but that makes it all the more special when someone feels under the weather.

Thank you for praying!  Thank you for the comments and phone calls checking on us....truly I am blessed with many friends...some of you I will never meet this side of heaven but oh! dear friends....what fun we will have in eternity worshiping our Father together!

May you all be blessed abundantly!

Insight.....

That wonderful, narcotic, cough syrup I mentioned....well.....it only works if you can keep it down...which he finally did at 4:32 this morning.  Of course, he is now sleeping beautifully and I'm looking forward to an afternoon nap....

Thank you for your prayers,

Blast from the Past

Lest you think otherwise, just let me say that this is NOT a good thing.  My boys are sick...one of them quite sick. It has been years since they've been really sick. Warning: This is a typical mama post with graphic depictions of illness.  If that bothers you, best leave now.

It started about two weeks ago.  I began our normal regimen of herbal care with some success.  Last Monday, I decided to take them to the doctor to make sure I wasn't missing something - they just weren't bouncing back like they normally do.

Been a LONG time since I was at the doctor with sick boys. Evidently, according to them, we don't go there enough.  Have you ever been scolded for not being sick more?  In fact it had been so long ~gasp~ that they had to be seen as "new patients" again.  I guess if you go more than five years between visits (and it had been that long or longer for each of them) then you are "new".  I was huffed at and puffed at....here's the kicker....they still found their old files.....    hhhhmmmm. Sounds fishy to me.  Note: the five years between visits is for their regular doctor and does not include the visits for trauma ...you know....broken bones, smashed fingers etc.  I've NEVER gone 5 years without someone breaking or smashing something!

I was encouraged though.  The doctor told me that he could tell Jeremy had been suffering from a sinus infection and ear infections but that I had managed to clear them both up.  However he did offer Jeremy a shot that would "make him feel great in just a day or so."  I thought he was joking at first but..... no...he was serious!  A shot.....red flags went up. "What kind of shot can do that?" the mama innocently asked....steroids.   STEROIDS?!   They give steroids once you are over something so you might "feel" better a few days earlier?  Jeremy declined...we'll keep up with the herbs...    thank.   you.   very.   much.

Josiah was the worst with a raging sinus infection, however, the doctor could tell I had managed to clear up the ear infections with that wonderful garlic & mullein oil.  He recommended anitbiotics and since they were going to be gone the next weekend, I thought it a good idea.

My little man Elijah had a sinus infection and an infection in one ear with the other one showing evidence of one previously but also well on the mend.  It wasn't too awful and he didn't feel that bad.  Again, antibiotics recommended and again I thought it a good idea.  This was the first time Elijah has ever had an antibiotic for an ear infection.  The garlic & mullein herbal oil I use always clears them up.  Trust me.  I own an otoscope and I know how to use it!

I thought all would be well but come Monday, my little man was much worse.  He slept almost all day.  Then he began coughing that night.  He continued to get worse little by little despite what I was doing....so,  the coughing increased bit by bit.  It got to the point that he was coughing so much he was vomiting.

I had the worst experience - I had run to town for MORE cough drops and called him to double check on the flavor he wanted.  He was talking and coughing and then I heard a huge bang (phone being thrown on the floor!), heard him vomiting and calling for help... "Help!...someone help me".  Oh, to be able to jump through the phone....my heart sank!  His brothers were out doing chores and no one was there in the house!  I stayed on the line until he could get back to me, made sure he was o.k. and then hurried home.  Last night he coughed all night and continued vomiting from the coughing. We spent a good part of the night in the big rocking chair.  He was running a fever and would doze on and off between coughing fits.  He hung onto me so tightly, and he was so warm that it was like being down in the greenhouse! It was a long night for both of us..... so this morning...back to the doctor.  His normal doctor was on vacation this week so we went to see a friend of mine who has a walk-in clinic here in town.  He is an excellent doctor.

Elijah has managed to progress to bronchitis, fluid behind the ear drums and ear infections.  Lovely.  It was hard for him to talk to the doctor...did I mention he can't stop coughing...or vomiting?  He was given another antibiotic and.....drum roll please.....a cough syrup with a narcotic in it to knock my darling out so he can sleep quiet his cough and allow him to rest tonight.  Me?  I am walking in a fog and it is only 7:30 pm...normally I'm not like that until after 10 p.m.

He continues to cough like crazy...and vomit....but hopefully tonight there will be sounds of silence.  He's been told to avoid crowds both for his own sake (he could catch something worse) and so that he doesn't infect someone else.  Not a problem for me....I learned many years ago not to take vomiting children out in public...it never turns out well for me...somehow I always end up covered in vomit.  I once rode 12 hours in a car with a child that began vomiting ON me about 20 minutes into the trip....come to think of it....I think that was Elijah too!.

I'm going to settle down in the rocker with my little one, administer the cough syrup and we are going to watch Herbie the Love Bug.  Hopefully by the end of the movie, he will be sound asleep and one of his big brothers can carry him up to bed so I can tuck him in....then I will gratefully fall into my own.

We'd appreciate your prayers for our family!

Blessings,

End the Fed!

A message from Ron Paul:
July 9, 2009

The Fed Must Be Stopped

Written by: Ron Paul

Our country currently finds itself in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the 1930s and, as during all economic crises, people search for the answer as to why this has happened.  Not only have large financial firms been affected, but also mainstays of American industry such as GM and Chrysler, all the way down to the Mom & Pop stores on Main Street.  The easy way out is to blame the traditional scapegoats: foreign governments, fraudulent businessmen, and greedy speculators.  But the real villain is far more sinister; the organization entrusted with maintaining a stable dollar and touted as the guarantor of economic stability – the Federal Reserve.

In the United States, monetary policy has been the domain of the Federal Reserve since its inception in 1913.  Since that time we have had a number of cyclical recessions, each one following a boom caused by the Federal Reserve's loose monetary policy.  The problem with the Federal Reserve is that it interferes with market pricing functions.  Interest rates are a price just like any other and arise because of the fact that people prefer to consume in the present rather than in the future.  The extent to which people defer present consumption is reflected in interest rates, which in a free market are determined by the spontaneous interactions and decisions of millions of people.

Fed intervention to set prices throws markets and interest rates out of equilibrium.  When the Federal Reserve pushes interest rates below what the market rate would be, everyone wants to borrow money for long-term projects.  Shortages of loanable funds would occur, except that the Federal Reserve has the ability to create bank balances out of thin air.  The Fed can create a bank ledger on paper, or on a computer, establish a balance of millions or billions of dollars, and then spend these dollars out into the economy.

Loans become cheap, and the result of these lower interest rates is an economic boom which eventually manifests itself as a bubble.  Beginning in 2001, the Federal Reserve pushed interest rates to as low as one percent, which after adjusting for inflation meant that the real interest rate was negative, so businesses were actually making money by taking out loans.  This was the fuel for the housing bubble and the reason there are 19 million empty houses today.

Because of this awesome power to create money out of thin air, the Fed has jumped in to stabilize ailing financial firms by pledging over $7 trillion through various guarantee programs and credit facilities.  This is equivalent to over half of the entire nation's GDP.  Over $1 trillion of this is already in play, propping up banks and other institutions that should be allowed to fail.  All of this has taken place with no oversight by Congress.  The Fed was created by Congress, and it is unconscionable that we have allowed it to act in such a way without our oversight.  Currently the Federal Reserve's credit facilities, open market operations, and agreements with foreign governments and central banks are all exempt from any sort of audit or oversight.  Earlier this year I introduced the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207, that would remove all restrictions on Federal Reserve audits and call for a f ull audit of the Federal Reserve System to be completed by the end of 2010.  At this writing, 245 of my fellow Congressmen have cosponsored this bill and we hope to have hearings in the near future. In the Senate, Republicans Jim DeMint, Mike Crapo and David Vitter have cosponsored S. 604, companion legislation introduced by Bernie Sanders. I am very encouraged by the tremendous growing momentum on Capitol Hill.

Our Founding Fathers never intended for a single entity such as the Federal Reserve to have this much power.  In fact, there is no authority in the Constitution for the federal government to create a central bank, to enact legal tender laws, or to print paper money.  The Tenth Amendment is quite clear that “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”  The states themselves are prohibited from emitting bills of credit, i.e. paper money, arising from the Founders' negative experiences with paper money during the Revolutionary War.  Cheap, un-backed, easily counterfeited paper money nearly lost the Revolution, until the government returned to minting gold and silver coins.  Unfortunately, like too many other lessons learned by the Founders, the painful experiences of paper money have been forgotten by those living in the pres ent.  We even ignore the experiences of Germans in the 1920s, Argentines in the 1980s, and Zimbabweans over the past decade.  The Fed doubled the monetary base last fall in a matter of months, and God help us if any of this high-powered money begins to make its way through the economy.

An audit of the Fed is only the first step towards returning to where our Founders intended this country to be.  The Founders knew that paper money could ruin a country, and drafted the Constitution in such a way that they thought would ensure sound, commodity-backed currency.  Unfortunately, the Constitution was dispensed with long ago, and we find ourselves now suffering under an unconstitutional regime of un-backed paper money.  Until we abolish the Federal Reserve and return to a stable currency that is not able to be manipulated to create boom and bust cycles, we will continue down the path of economic ruin.

Congress Ron Paul serves the fourteenth district of Texas and is honorary chairman of Campaign for Liberty. His new book, End the Fed (Grand Central Publishing) will release on September 16th and is available for pre-order on Amazon.

Please, please....call your Representatives and Senators - hold them responsible and demand that the Fed be audited...the entire nation's finances are in the hands of a private group......and if they don't listen....VOTE THEM OUT....I think I've said that before....

Tea Party Time!

We attended our local tea party last week and enjoyed some wonderful speakers!  A local attorney, Jeff Cobble, gave a wonderful speech on our Constitution and encouraged everyone to get a copy and read it thoroughly...hhhmmmm....wonder how many of our representatives have done so?  From the legislation that comes out of Capital Hill, I'd say not many since much of it violates our beloved Constitution!

One of our good friends, Walter, gave a wonderful speech on the courthouse steps!

Walter on the courthouse steps!

I happen to know this young man doesn't do a lot of public speaking.....yet!  He did an excellent job, seemed completely at ease and really engaged the crowd....I expect him to do a lot more speaking and wouldn't be surprised if our Father moved this godly young man into some local politics!  He's already got our vote....and some willing campaign workers!  You can hear and see Walter's speech here.

This also happens to be where Jeremy gave his first public performance with his new drums!  This video should answer the requests from ya'll to see more of Jeremy's drumming. The Willi were gracious enough to ask Jeremy to play with them during the Tea Party!  There isn't much Jeremy enjoys more than playing with friends...especially these friends!

These young people really did a great job.  They sang a song that they wrote themselves...it is called "Tattered Old Flag".  I really encourage you to listen to the words....this video is courtesy of The Willi and can also be watched on their site here.

On the Steps of the Courthouse - "Tattered Old Flag" by The Willi from Walter on Vimeo.

If you'd like to purchase a copy of their CD you can do so here.  I assure you that you won't be disappointed!  You can also listen to many samples of the songs on their CD.

There was a huge crowd with many local, state and federal politicians present.

Congressman Roe in the suit...carrying the Cap and Trade bill.

Congressman Roe, who listens to his constituents and does a good job, brought us a copy of the Cap and Trade Cap and Tax bill that will cost each family in America thousands of dollars in increased taxes, gasoline prices, heating and cooling prices and more!  He also brought a copy of the ~ahem~ little amendment that was added at 3:09 am.....over 700 pages!  I have, of course, something to say about this...VOTE THESE PEOPLE OUT!!!!  If they introduce legislation that is contrary to the Constitution, it ought to be automatic grounds for dismissal.  That would surely stop the majority of the nonsense emanating from Capitol Hill.

Courtesy of the Greeneville Sun

I think all of these people would agree with me!  This photo is courtesy of our local paper which did a huge article on the Tea Party.  You can read about it on their website here.

And here is The Willi and Jeremy in action...also courtesy of our local paper.

The Willi and Jeremy!

I hope you participated in your local tea parties...if not I encourage you to do so in the future.  The only way to make a course correction in the direction that this country is headed is to get involved....all of us!  This applies to our children.  I don't know if we will see much of a change in our lifetime...it will be the next generation that truly makes a difference and we need to get them started now.

One of the most important things we need to do is appeal to our Father for our nation.  Truly it is in His hands.  Although we deserve judgement as a nation, we beg for His loving mercy.

Happy Independence Day!

In celebration of today, I share some thoughts from  Chuck Baldwin and Brion McClanahan, Brion McClanahan is the author of the Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers. First here is what Brion has to say:
This July 4th, Remember the Founders

While Americans are busy enjoying ice cream, hot dogs, cold drinks, and fireworks on July 4, I’m sure very few consider the following questions: What would the Founding Fathers say about the modern United States, and what is the meaning of independence? Certainly the United States would not be here without the Founders, the greatest generation in American history, but perhaps a better way of answering the questions is by simply considering whether the United States is the federal republic of the Founders’ design or has it been “remade” as Barack Obama continues to suggest.

The dichotomy between the Founders’ republic and the federal leviathan in Washington D.C. could not be more pronounced than it is in 2009. The Founding Fathers would all be considered conservatives today, even the most ardent centralizers in the bunch. They recognized the need for government, but with few exceptions believed in local and state sovereignty and as little government as possible. They would not have accepted the rash of federal bailouts—or in many cases central banking in general (the FED)—or modern welfare capitalism and the public debt that accompanies hundreds of “social” programs designed to redistribute wealth. They seceded from the British government in part because of unconstitutional (and miniscule by modern standards) taxes and would be appalled by the current level of taxation in America on all levels of government. They were a God-fearing generation jealous of individual liberty and believed through their understanding of history that without constitutional restraint government could be the most dangerous enemy of liberty and freedom. They would have been wary of the unconstitutional powers of the modern executive branch and would have been suspicious of a man who promised “Hope and Change.” As Benjamin Franklin said, “He who lives on hope will die fasting.”

The Founding Fathers also understood that a sound republic depended on an educated, virtuous, civic minded citizenry, and their government and society reflected their values. Patrick Henry often reminded his fellow Virginians that the “ancient constitutions” of their forefathers provided the best example for the future. He was guided, as he articulated during his famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” speech, by the lamp of “experience.” John Dickinson, an important but forgotten founder, considered “Experience to be our only guide. Reason may mislead us.” These men broke from the British Empire in order to preserve the traditions of their communities, not create something new. They participated in government because it was their duty to serve, and they often resisted. Both George Washington and George Mason, for example, preferred retirement to politics, but humbly served when called and gave up power willingly. And, since this generation tended to be suspicious of government, government did very little. Forgotten founder George Clinton, arguably the most popular governor in New York history and no relation to Bill or Hillary, often celebrated that New York freeholders paid no taxes for eighteen years while he was in office. The founding generation disagreed on many things, but the right of self-determination and limited self-government was not one of them. Most viewed their state as their country and believed people had the right and duty to determine their own destiny, government included.

Moreover, the Founders were not egalitarian romantics with lofty views of human nature. They were men of their times, but the leaders of this generation had a sound understanding of classical history and the nature of man, without question better than the current crop of “educated” Americans. When current college freshmen have a difficult time recalling basic historical concepts or events, thanks in large part to public “education,” one has to wonder if current or future leaders could match the intellectual might of any of the Founding Fathers. Could contemporary Americans honestly rely upon federal or state “leaders” to write a viable constitution or make decisions without conducting a public opinion poll? When image is more important than substance, probably not. In contrast, the founding generation produced the framework for two federal unions—the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution—and authored a host of state constitutions. History and the nature of man, of course, have not changed since the founding generation, only its interpretation and the willingness of modern Americans to seemingly embrace government involvement in our lives.

So, how does this apply to our society? If the United States had been “remade,” and it has, so too have American citizens. Americans have become less independent since the time of the founding generation. We owe thousands to large corporate banks, live in rented or mortgaged homes, and spend 110% of our income each year. We spend hours watching sports on television, ignore our history and civics, shun the vote, and trounce our Constitution. We have given our rights away often without protest to various levels of government and pay half of our money to these same governments in order to “level” society. We have forgotten the republican (not the same as the Republican Party) ideals of simplicity, frugality, civic participation, and virtue, and have failed to retain simple methods of survival, believing that the trough will always be full, our bellies always fat and our wallet stuffed with money (or credit). We have, in essence, become decadent serfs to Uncle Sam and in the process have been lulled by “bread and games.” A people with reckless habits can expect no more from their government and government often reflects society.

The ability of Americans to understand and emulate the founding generation holds the key to a prosperous future. Battle lines have been drawn. If Americans continue to accept larger and more powerful government, bailouts, government handouts, nationalized industries and restrictions on individual liberty, they move closer to dependence and serfdom and farther from the founding principles of the United States. But, the Founding Fathers would argue that every step Americans take toward decentralization, individual responsibility, and personal independence is a step toward salvaging the republic. July 4 is about independence from a king, freedom from oppressive government and high taxes, and the power of self-determination. All Americans would do well to remember that lesson. We can “remake” America or preserve the founding principles of the United States, but we cannot do both.

And now here are some words from Chuck Baldwin:
As we approach Independence Day, it behooves us to recall the principles of America's founding, especially in light of the ongoing attempt by today's political and commercial leaders to merge the United States into a hemispheric government. In fact, the clarion call for independence is just as fundamental, just as revolutionary as it was 233 years ago.

Regarding the signing of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams said, "[Independence Day] will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the Day of Deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore."

Adams went on to say, "You will think me transported with enthusiasm, but I am not. I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory; I can see that the end is more than worth all the means, that posterity will triumph in that day's transaction, even though we should rue it, which I trust in God we shall not."

Indeed, the signers of America's Declaration of Independence endured the sacrifice of both toil and blood. Pertaining to the lives of the signers, David Limbaugh writes, "Of those 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, nine died of wounds or hardships during the war. Five were captured and imprisoned, in each case with brutal treatment. Several lost wives, sons or entire families. One lost his thirteen children. Two wives were brutally treated. All were at one time or another the victims of manhunts and driven from their homes. Twelve signers had their homes completely burned. Seventeen lost everything they owned."

Yes, America's Declaration of Independence, which is our nation's birth certificate, was purchased at a very high price. Rightly did its primary author, Thomas Jefferson, invoke God's name no less than four times in the Declaration. Without God, our struggle for independence and freedom would surely have failed.

Jefferson, along with the vast majority of America's founders, knew that freedom was, first, the gift of God, not the accomplishment of men. He further understood that man's law must be subordinate to the natural laws of God.

Therefore, with an appeal to Heaven for the "rectitude of [their] intentions," America's Founding Fathers courageously forged a document that would put their own lives at risk, but would also change the course of history.

The question now is, "How long can we maintain our nation's independence?" The forces of global government seem to dominate both major parties in Washington, D.C., most corporate boardrooms, and most newsrooms.

In fact, hemispheric or regional government never had more powerful and committed allies than former Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and now President Barack Obama. Mark my words: if and when America loses its independence, it will have been these Presidents that led the way in making it happen.

If the United States is going to maintain its independence and freedom much beyond the year 2010, it will only be because millions of freedom-loving Americans (and the governments of the States in which they reside) are willing to fight for it.

Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826. Daniel Webster gave the eulogy for both men on August 2 of that year. Included in his remarks on that notable day were these words: "It [the Declaration of Independence] is my living sentiment, and by the blessing of God, it shall be my dying sentiment. Independence now, and independence forever."

To Webster's words, I say a hearty AMEN! I promise no loyalty to the North American Union, the United Nations, or any other brand of global government. When the day comes that I am required to submit to any form of global authority, I will be an outlaw. There is no freedom without independence, and there is no independence without eternal vigilance. To my dying breath I will say with Daniel Webster, "Independence now, and independence forever!"

Ponder these things today....teach them to your children....thank our Father for such brave men as our founders...and ask Him to raise up another generation of such men and women!

Road Trip!

Jeremy has been on a quest for about a year now.  He has been working hard and saving money hoping to make a huge purchase around Christmas this year.  Then it happened.  He was doing some checking on EBay and found something he thought he might really like...it wasn't quite what he had in mind but he was willing to take a little less to get it a little quicker.

I was trying to find the listing when I stumbled across something else...something that made his eyes widen and his fingers twitch.  So much nicer than he ever hoped or dreamed...but oh! the price...however it was  followed by "make me an offer".  So Jeremy did...but it wasn't enough.  They ended up talking on the phone...on and off over the next few days.  He was a very nice gentleman with a heart for a hard-working young man who was just starting out.

He made Jeremy an offer...a wonderfully, huge, kind, generous offer.  Jeremy had to tell him that he still couldn't swing it but would work hard and get back to him.  Jeremy worked as much as he could for the next 10 days or so....his brothers loaned him some money from their farm account, Grandma helped too, big brother Josh kicked in with a generous graduation gift...and Mom, well, I filled in the gaps.

Jeremy called this gentleman back but the set was sold.  Have you ever watched your child's eyes when they thought all was lost....heart breaking!  Then this wonderful man told Jeremy that he would "build" another set....just like the one on EBay....he said  "I am a man of my word"...and he liked what he saw in Jeremy...the willingness to work hard for a dream.  There was only one stipulation....we had to pick it up and pay in cash.  Pick.       it.      up.       .....in Myrtle Beach, SC!

When your son looks at you with those big, brown, pleading eyes and says "Mom....."   well, you would do just what I did....gas up the van and say "let's go!"

We had to leave my little man at home under the watchful eyes of those who love him....he wasn't feeling well and we couldn't afford 1,000 potty stops on such a long trip.  We left at 5:30 am.  We got to Myrtle Beach about 1:00 pm.  Jeremy was so excited to meet Michael that he was about to pop!  We entered a huge beautiful home, Elijah would have called it a mansion! We traveled upstairs and into the "studio".  There they were, custom built, wrapped in a beautiful blue sparkle...huge!  Jeremy sat down and began to play....a gorgeous set of Roland Electric Drums!

Dreams do come true!

Michael explained everything, threw in some wonderful "just in case you need it" items and even gave Jeremy a huge case on wheels to hold the drums when they break down.  They are used.....slightly....but you'd never know it...there isn't a mark on them.

Rolands!

I was shocked at how big they were....they barely fit in the back of the van...barely!  If Elijah had been feeling better and joined us on this trip, we never would have gotten everything in...Jeremy was crowded on the way home but I heard nary a complaint!

We found out we were only 4 blocks from the beach and Jeremy had never seen the Atlantic Ocean.  I wish we had been able to spend the night and enjoy a day on the beach.  We took the opportunity to enjoy some fresh, local seafood for lunch and then drove to a residential area and found a public access to the beach.  We only spent about 15 minutes there but Jeremy got to walk out and wade in the ocean for a bit - it was a beautiful day and we ended up far from the crazy crowds.  We don't "do" public beaches because of the attire lack of attire but this residential section was almost deserted.  Jeremy found some shells and fossils for his little brother and I snapped this quick picture with my phone....(why, oh why didn't I bring my camera?!)

Myrtle Beach, S.C.

It was hard to get back in the car and face the long drive home.  I think it was after midnight when we pulled in.  I went straight to bed and never heard a thing until the roosters started calling at sunrise.  However, I have been told that Jeremy unloaded them, put them together and played them that night!

Aaaaahhhhh, the silence.....these wonderful electric drums can be used with a headset.  Mothers of drummers will understand my excitement at the thought.  When Jeremy  would play his acoustic set his brother had to wear ear protection if he was in the same room!  I could hear it across the driveway, inside my Mom's house, with all the windows and doors shut and the a/c running.  LOUD doesn't even begin to describe it.

This set is quiet.  I can't even hear it in my room with the door closed when he practices.....and he practices a lot!  I LOVE THIS SET!!! ~ahem~  Mothers of drummers will understand!

Jeremy has a passion for music.  He plays most Wed. nights at our home group during worship.  He plays often on Sunday mornings at church.  His dream is to play in a band using his talents to bring glory to our Father.  I believe that will happen.  He's good. People who know about such things have told me so.  Me?  I wouldn't have had a clue....I'm his Mom...of course I love what he does.

I am thankful to our Father for this provision, for the blessing it was to see my family pitch in to make this happen for Jeremy, for Michael who touched and blessed our lives with his generosity and talent and for the beauty of that magnificent ocean...even if we only enjoyed it for a few moments.

I look forward to seeing what He will do with Jeremy's passion for worship.  One week after  picking up his drums, Jeremy had his first "public" performance....I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Blessings!

Delicious Red Gold

At least my boys think it's value is comparable to gold.  I'm talking about Strawberry freezer jam.  If they had their way, I'd be making about 104 jars a year - enough to go through two jars a week.  However, their dentist and I disagree.  This year I bought two ~cases~  yep...cases of strawberries.  We need to be growing these - perhaps next year!

We never buy jams or jellies  from the store and the main reason why is that most of  it is made with high fructose corn syrup.  We don't buy anything containing that nasty ingredient.  Do some research on the dangers of high fructose corn syrup and then come and make jam with me!

Last year I did about a case and a half of strawberries and it just wasn't enough.  I make strawberry jam, hot strawberry jam (cooked and freezer jam) and then freeze berries for cobblers, fruit salads, shortcakes and ice cream throughout the year.  I try to keep track of my pantry and it's contents by the end of the winter so I know where I can cut back or where I need to do more.  For instance, I still have plenty of cooked strawberry jam and cooked hot strawberry jam so I don't need to do that this year.  However, the freezer jam has become a favorite of the boys.  Last year I made strawberry and peach....both of them seemed to fly out of the freezer.  My boys certainly can eat!

I started with what I thought were enough jars....I ended up washing even more!

Waiting to be filled!

Then of course, you need the berries....

A bowl full of delight....

And good company makes the job so much more fun while at the same time it helps the work to go quickly.  My Mom joined me and we spent a good part of the afternoon and some of the evening stemming strawberries and chatting....

Beautiful berries!

I really enjoy these times with my Mom.  I especially enjoy the stories of her life growing up, what times were like and the tales about our relatives.

While we were stemming and chatting, we came across this unusual berry....Elijah says our Father sent it because we have a house filled with love!

Sweet "heart"!

Freezer jam is really easy to make...berries, sugar and Sure-jel....mix and go!  This time, when I was shopping for Sure-jel, a little, elderly lady approached me and told me that the generic version for 95 cents was just as good as the brand name for $2.67!  Once I read the ingredients, I was ready to try it and save some money.  She was absolutely correct - it worked very well and I am thankful for a small town where a stranger will come up and try to steer you straight!

Once you get into the swing of things, it moves very quickly. It usually takes me about two batches to become familiar with the process again.  I purchased the cases of berries in the morning.  Normally I would only do one at a time but they weren't sure if they would be back ...they were at the end of their season.  So....I thought I had better get them while I could. I began washing and stemming berries about 2:00 pm and Mom helped me until about 8 p.m. that night.  All of the jam was made and the mess cleaned up by midnight!  One day of work will feed and delight us for the next year!  I froze my berries in quarts this year - I used to do gallons but seemed pressed to use it all before they went bad.  I am hoping quarts will be more practical.

I make a "hot" version of my jams that are very popular.  It is very easy to do and doesn't matter if you are making freezer jam or cooked jam.  Once the pectin is well mixed in, I take out about a cup of jam and drop it into my blender.  I then add a hot pepper - you can use any hot pepper - pick your favorite according to how hot you like things.  Let it blend until pureed - then pour it back into the batch of  jam and mix well.  The end result is the normal sweet taste of the jam, followed by a mild heat.  YUMMY!  I love to pour it over a block of home made chevre cheese (you can use cream cheese) and serve with crackers....we are often asked to bring this to a pot luck.

Soon I'll be doing raspberries and blackberries.....peaches won't be far behind.  I think this year I will make less peach jam and instead will be freezing peaches for cobblers and peaches and cream.  The boys seem to like them better that way and we have some peach jam left.  I like the peach jam drizzled over home made pancakes or home churned vanilla ice cream.

I encourage you to visit your farmer's markets if you don't raise fruit and begin your preparations for winter....it is wonderful to have fruit in some form all year long.  I won't buy fruit (or produce) from other countries and we really prefer local and organic if we aren't growing it ourselves.

Worth the work!

Join me this summer in preserving this wonderful bounty from our Father in one form or another.  You'll thank me when the snow flies and the cold winds blow!

Blessings!
