Maybe baby?

Not much time to post today! We believe Nora is in labor :)  In case you are a new reader, Nora is our favorite milk cow! I've been informed that she has "bagged up" so her time is close.  "Bagging up" is when their udder fills with milk in preparation for a new baby.

Because Nora is a little older, we are keeping a close eye on her today and preparing a stall for her to use for a few days after the little one is born. We are in the middle of brisk fall weather and the nights are in the low 40s.  We want to keep that little one warm at night till it's strong.

I'll post pictures as soon as I have some...

Praying for a little girl!

Blessings,

  1. You know what, you sound a lot like me. We have one ready to calve any day now. She has started to bag up and she is an older jersey. We get up all night to check on her. We are praying for a
    heifer,too.

  2. What happened with Nora? Have you ever had to deal with milk fever with her? We just learned of something new to keep milk fever away.

  3. Nora is taking her sweet time. The boys assure me that she is bagging up slowly. I have had to deal with milk fever before - we were advised, with jersey cows, to give them a calcium gel pack immediately after calving to prevent milk fever. If you have another idea, I'd love to hear it!

Hope you didn't catch a chill while swimming :)
